The transformation of the Guangdong Float Glass Factory relies on a series of new formats in creative leadership and curatorial strategies. The building became the main protagonist, rather than the background of a show; the sponsor turned from sponsor into investor; the transition design has been done by a group of 15 international and very diverse architects; they were asked to work collectively, but still “do almost nothing” and keep alive the existing value; the outdoor space had to be developed in an urban farm; the site was developed in a unique architecture experience centre; the content program was bound to become a world class package… and so on.

This set of techniques is part of a cultural vision the Creative Director has been able to develop over the years. It did not start with the job to curate a biennale, and it will not end with it. In the workspace/exhibition, the Value Factory Studio will present its work for the Biennale as a creative process as part of a longer history, and will I nthe meantime just continue to work on new projects and prospects. This way the Studio functions as a summary, but also as a test ground for the future use of the Value Factory.
